Text Box: Still Not Convinced of the Power of  the Internet?

Text Box: Second Life was launched in 2003. It is virtual world or metaverse where users can sign up with a character and carry out a completely other life online. You can create how your
character looks, go to parties and events, own a home, drive a fancy car, participate in games and anything else you can think of. For what you might have thought impossible in your real life, Second Life can make a virtual reality. There are even users making a living by creating things like clothes, vehicles and homes within the metaverse and selling them, it actually has its own economy—now that’s powerful.
Over 20 million accounts worldwide have been registered in the short time it has been on the market and its popularity is
increasing at lightening speed. Marketers and business people have tapped into the power of this medium and are creating
virtual businesses, products and services online. They can then test the viability of these ideas in real life by accumulating
feedback from virtual ‘residents’ of the game. When you are
considering tying up huge amounts of capital to make a go of a new business idea vs. spending a fraction of the budget to test the concept first it’s a win-win.
To learn more about how
businesses are capitalizing on this virtual testing ground check out the presentation on You Tube.

Text Box: TIP OF THE DAY
Text Box: Unless you really hate popcorn, one of the first instincts you may have walking into a movie theatre is to buy a bucket for the show. The management is well aware that the smell of freshly popped popcorn means higher sales. Regardless of whether we buy the popcorn or not we expect the scent to the extent that if there was no popcorn we might ask ourselves if we’re in the right place.
Businesses can capitalize on the senses like movie theatres do by addressing each of the five human senses through branding.
Conduct your own sensory audit to improve the strength of your overall brand.
Sight
Whether you’re hosting clients in your location, interacting with them online or providing a product, how the package looks will create an immediate perception. Think through all the ways that your clients actually see you. If you’re providing a service and have clients onsite look around and ask yourself “What would I think of this place if I walked through the door right now?”
Hearing
How important is it to hear a friendly voice at the other end of the phone when calling a company for information or to lodge a
complaint? Extremely important. A kind voice can diffuse a bad situation before it even starts. Some other considerations are the level of background noise in the office and the kind of music played while a client is on hold. What clients and potential clients hear when they interact with you is helping them to form an
opinion about your offering.
Taste
You don’t have to be a restaurant to care about taste. How about the coffee you serve? If a potential new client leaves your office thinking that was the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had, you’ve left a good impression. If you are in the food and/or beverage
industry taste is of course very important, but there’s opportunity for almost any company to capitalize on this sense.
Smell
Experts say if you want to sell a house quickly bake cookies before the open house. People walk in and automatically feel like they’re home. What aroma will make your clients feel comfortable or better yet, increase sales?
Touch
You might not think the kind of paper you use means a whole lot, but it can. If a client is paying a premium price for your products/services a higher quality paper stock can help reinforce that they got what they paid for. But, if you’re a not-for-profit organization with high end stationery they may wonder what their donations are being spent on. Office furniture is another good example of how touch can be maximized as a branding attribute. Do you want your clients to sink into the couch and relax while they’re waiting to meet with you or do you want them to sit down and say to themselves “I’m not meant to be here long.”

Text Box: Eager To Impress The Boss
A young executive was
leaving the office late
one evening when he
found the CEO standing
in front of a shredder with a piece of paper in his hand.
"Listen," said the CEO, "this is a very sensitive and important document here, and my
secretary has gone for the night. Can you make this thing work?"
"Certainly," said the young
executive. He turned the
machine on, inserted the paper, and pressed the start button.
"Excellent, excellent!" said the CEO as his paper disappeared inside the machine.
"I just need one copy."
