Text Box: Ever heard of facebook? Most of you likely have, it’s not only been in the news almost everyone you know is quite likely on it. For those of you who haven’t heard of it, it’s a social networking site—sort of a personal website where you can post all kinds of interesting bits of information that you share back and forth with your network of friends.
Some organizations have implemented an outright ban on
employee use of facebook while at work. It can be rather
addictive and apparently has now been tied to workplace
productivity. But, for all the time it takes it also provides an
opportunity to quickly reconnect with old friends and contacts, which for some (particularly in sales), is an asset. Some trend experts are now forecasting that social networks may eventually replace mainstream email in the future. Wikipedia states that facebook alone has 73.5 million users and is just one of 109 other networks out there. It is new technology that really can’t be ignored and certainly not underestimated.
As much fun as social networking sites can be they can also be a nuisance or worse yet, a security issue. For more information on social networks and how to safeguard yourself when using them check out these resources:

Text Box: TIP OF THE DAY
Text Box: McDonald’s made it big by standardizing their restaurants. It really doesn’t matter which McDonald’s you visit you can be
relatively sure the Big Mac will taste just about the same and a certain standard for service and cleanliness will be met. Of course, things have changed since their original model became so
successful.
Today consumers still want to  be able to depend on a consistent approach, but they need change quicker than ever. McDonald’s lost some ground when they didn’t listen to the marketplace and stuck to the attitude that you don’t fix what isn’t broken. The happy medium today is consistency along with change and there’s only one way to really achieve that—communication.
We’ve found that almost every organization needs a central
repository to capture, organize and make information available for collaboration. Some time ago we went on a search for a tool that would fulfill those needs and we found it in Microsoft Windows SharePoint.
SharePoint is a web-based collaboration tool that allows for
documents, tasks, contacts, processes and collaboration to be shared in one place. There are a number of these types of
programs on the market today—we’ve had success with
SharePoint for a number of reasons:
1. It is fairly cost efficient in the grand scheme of things and compared to other options. In fact with a Windows Small
Business Server implementation it comes free of charge. And because of it’s popularity, particularly in the U.S., there are also external hosting options available.
2. It is a Microsoft program that most people are familiar with. If you’ve used Outlook, Word and/or Excel you will automatically be quite familiar with the interface and functionality.
3. It is a very flexible tool that is simple to customize for each organization’s unique needs. Most customizations can be
easily implemented without any custom coding.
We’ve been implementing SharePoint for approximately two years now and it’s proven to be an effective tool. If you believe
SharePoint could help your organization achieve a higher level of consistency and allow for the type of communication that
facilitates positive change to meet the demands of the
marketplace call us at 951-9803 or email kscott@staticinteractive.com

Text Box: Dealing with Competitors
A retail shop owner was
dismayed when a close
competitor opened up next door and erected a huge sign which read 'BEST DEALS.'
He was horrified when another competitor opened up on his right, and announced its arrival with an even larger sign, reading 'LOWEST PRICES.'
The shop owner panicked, until he got an idea. He put the
biggest sign of all over his own shop. It read:
'MAIN ENTRANCE'

Text Box: The number one benefit of
information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do. It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive. It lets people learn things they didn't think they could learn before, and so in a sense it is all about potential.
