Text Box: Now that we’ve got this newsletter to
share information we would like to
highlight some of the great news
our clients are creating!
We are happy to work with Canadian
Healthcare Products (CHCP) who
provide mobility products to people
with physical challenges. Every July
for the past six years, CHCP has put on a Day at the Beach.
Early in the morning they travel to Grand Beach armed with tents, coolers and lots of plywood. They transform the west beach boat launch into a fully accessible beach for everyone regardless of physical ability. Ramps are built right up to the water so that people in wheelchairs can get on the dock and into a canoe or paddle boat for a leisurely tour around the lake or into a sea-doo or sit-ski for a thrill-packed ride!
They also bring out some of the latest recreational equipment. Last year they had the most amazing chair that made it
possible for someone with very little mobility to ‘hike’ through the brush and wheel up and down the beach. It was like a 4x4 wheelchair and was a huge hit with participants.
Around noon, barbecued burgers and hotdogs are served free of charge and water, juice and pop are plentiful. There are lots of fun prizes that are handed out for the most participative and every year one person wins the grand prize for being the most inspirational individual at the event.
We’re inspired by CHCP’s thoughtful attention to their clients. They put on a Day at the Beach for the sole reason of providing opportunities for their clients and families that they might not ever have been able to realize on their own. CHCP likes to
describe what they do as taking the ’dis’ out of disability. That couldn’t be more true, especially on July 20 at Grand Beach.
Consider supporting a Day at the Beach along with us—we’ll be barbecuing burgers and dogs, but there are lots of other ways to participate. For more information about CHCP visit their website at www.chcp.ca

Text Box: TIP OF THE DAY
Text Box: We all recognize that we live in an age where technology is a necessity, but before going out and buying the newest, latest and greatest software and equipment we recommend
thoroughly reviewing your operation first.
All pre-packaged software has it’s limitations. One of the
biggest mistakes organizations tend to make is to purchase a package that is ‘canned’ the developer way instead of your way. Once implemented it quickly becomes apparent that
absolutely everything has to change to actually use it. We all know how difficult change can be not only taxing staff, but also challenging the patience of clients. The more legacy processes you can keep the better—unless of course, they aren’t working to your standard.
Evaluating Your Operation
Here’s a framework we like to use in mapping a clear course for  the operation:
1. Define Operational Goals—On the highest level you need to be clear about what your organizational goals are. Do you want to be faster, more detailed, more secure? Start with your clients in mind and work back to the needs of the operation for a client-centric approach. After all, it doesn’t matter if processes make it easy for the team if at the end of the day your clients aren’t getting what they need.
2. Workflow Diagram—Draw it out. Start with the person or role who begins the flow of information and work through each individual as information passes from one to the next. Use Visio, Word or just a plain old piece of paper and pencil. But, be clear about what happens to the information. For example: if a client calls for a quote and it is
straightforward it may be routed to one person, but if it is specific there may be another person on staff to direct it to. Show ‘if’ scenarios in the diagram—if one thing occurs
another happens.
3. Job Descriptions—An often overlooked organizational tool is job descriptions. They are beneficial on a number of fronts, one of the most important is accountability. To
ensure that tasks and information don’t fall through the cracks each individual in the organization needs to be 100% clear of their responsibility. Well defined job descriptions help diversify the workload and uncover where processes are required to automate redundant tasks.
4. Processes—Once you have a well defined workflow and job descriptions are in place, processes if not already apparent, become so very quickly. Opportunities for efficiencies will also bubble to the surface and may then be dealt with through technology implementation.

Will this technology complement or complicate your technology? If the answer is complicate keep looking.

Finding the Right Technology For You
Shopping for technology armed with a clear picture of the
organization is a much easier task. The most important
question to keep top of mind is: Will this technology
complement or complicate our environment? If the answer is complicate keep looking.

Text Box: Nerds Versus Jocks
An answer to the eternal question "Is it better to be a jock or a nerd?"

Michael Jordan will
make over $300,000 a
game: $10,000 a minute,
assuming he averages about 30
minutes per game.

Assuming $40 million in
endorsements next year, he'll be making $178,100 a day (working or not)!

Assuming he sleeps 7 hours a night, he makes $52,000 every night while visions of sugarplums dance in his head.
If you were given a tenth of a penny for every dollar he made, you'd be living comfortably at $65,000 a year.

But:

Jordan will have to save 100% of his income for 270 years to have a net worth equivalent to that of Bill Gates.

Nerds win!
