Text Box: TIP OF THE DAY
Text Box: Now is a good time to be thinking about what effect ambience or an experience can have on your target market. To create a
lasting impact and get your message across you need to help an audience feel something.
Halloween is the perfect example of how to create an
experience. It encompasses almost every element of fear we can think of—from the dark, to the costumes to the tales that go along with the history of the day. It really is a spooky time of year that most people look forward to—or, if nothing else, at least have some vivid memories of.
Although, all of your communications need to set the stage for your message, events are a particularly good place to really
create an experience that has lasting impact.
If you have a relatively small group of opinion leaders you can invite to an event, there are plenty of ways you can influence how they feel about your organization by the time they leave. Here are a few items you may want to take into consideration when hosting an event.
1. What are the specific goals for the event?
2. Who will be at the event? What is the profile of the average attendee?
3. What do you want attendees to feel about your organization when they walk in the door?
4. What do you want them to feel when they walk out at the end of the event?
5. Come up with a few descriptive words that encompass the character you want to create for the event to help integrate all of the details. Use those words as a benchmark each time you make a decision on décor, food and beverages, music, entertainment/speakers, take home items etc.
Whether your goal is to reinforce your client’s good decision to work with you, change a preconceived notion or increase your referral network, events can be a powerful tool in your
communications mix.
